FUNAG publishes book on the effects of the establishment of the Guimarães Rosa Institute and the promotion of the Portuguese language broad

The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation has just published the book A criação do Instituto Guimarães Rosa: desafios e oportunidades para a difusão da língua portuguesa no exterior [The Creation of the Guimarães Rosa Institute: Challenges and Opportunities for the Dissemination of the Portuguese Language Abroad], by the diplomat Jorge Luiz Vieira Tavares.

The book analyzes the impact of the establishment of the Guimarães Rosa Institute in 2022 on the promotion of the Portuguese language abroad, a policy led by Itamaraty. The analysis focuses on three areas: Brazilian Cultural Centres, the Guimarães Rosa lecturer programme, aimed at teaching the Portuguese language in foreign universities, and multilateral action within the Community of Portuguese Language Countries. In each area, challenges and proposals are identified to strengthen the dissemination of the language, considering Brazilian and international experiences.
