Brazilian Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, to promote national film productions at the Marché du Film, in Cannes
Brazil, May 12, 2025 – The Brazilian Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, arrives this Tuesday (13th) at the Marché du Film 2025 to promote the Brazilian audiovisual industry, showcasing talent and establishing new international partnerships. Brazil is the Country of Honor of the largest international market for films and film professionals in the world, which takes place in France, during the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Ms. Menezes leads the delegation in a series of strategic meetings until May 18th.
The highlights of this visit include hosting the Marché du Film Opening Party at Plage des Palmes on May 14th, which will feature a pocket concert by Brazilian singer Luedji Luna. On Thursday, the 15th, she will be at the Main Conference: “Audiovisual Ecosystem and Brazilian Institutions,” at 10 am. On the same day, at 5 pm, Ms. Menezes will meet with the Brazilian delegation, made up of 65 agents from the audiovisual sector supported by the Ministry, including filmmakers, producers and talents from the Brazilian industry, who will be in several of the main programs of the Marché du Film. Of these, 33 were selected through a call for proposals to support participation in the market and another 32 professionals received institutional support in the form of accreditation, nominated by associations and unions. On the 16th, there will be a meeting with the French Minister of Culture and the agenda ends on May 18th, when Ms. Menezes will attend the world premiere of the film “The Secret Agent”, by Kleber Mendonça.
Ms. Menezes comments on the strategic importance of the Ministry and Brazil's participation in the Marché du Film: “Brazil's nomination as the Country of Honor is a historic achievement and celebrates this great moment experienced by national productions, which do not begin or end with the Oscar for “I'm Still Here”. Our administration understands that film is a powerful industry, a powerful soft power tool and a fundamental pillar of the creative economy. That is why the investment we are making is also historic.”
For Ms. Menezes, being in the largest market for film professionals in the world is a unique opportunity to expand connections, strengthen conversations and show the world the diversity and creativity of Brazilian cinema.
“We have been working since 2023 to resume the internationalization of our industry, and having this recognition as the Country of Honor in 2025 at the Marché du Film consolidates and amplifies the strength of our productions”, said Joelma Gonzaga, Secretary of Audiovisual of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
Brazil at the Marché du Film
This year, Brazil will bring two booths to the event. The main one is the “Cinema do Brasil” (“Films of Brazil”) project, which has the institutional support of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (MinC), and will occupy an area of 96m². The second one, of approximately 37m², will be shared between the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro through their film representatives, SPCine and RioFilme respectively. These spaces will function as strategic hubs for international articulation and promotion of the Brazilian audiovisual sector.
Among the main programs of the Marché du Film, the talents of the Brazilian sector will be seen at Cannes Docs, Producers Network, Goes to Cannes, Cannes Makers, Spot the Composer and Co-Production Day. These are business meetings, institutional activities and initiatives to promote Brazilian productions internationally. In addition, Brazil will host three conference panels to offer an in-depth view of its dynamic audiovisual sector.
Since the Marché is primarily aimed at the audiovisual market, the focus of Brazilian participation is on the business delegation, made up mostly of production companies and professionals from the production chain.
“Brazil is a country of producers, filmmakers, workers and consumers of audiovisual media. We have made efforts to strengthen Brazilian cinema so that it continues to amaze both Brazilians and foreigners. And we are reaping the rewards of an administration that sees the importance of investing in policies for this industry,” said Ms. Menezes.
Brazil’s participation in the Marché Du Film is organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Guimarães Rosa Institute and the Brazilian Embassy in Paris and ApexBrasil. The initiative plays a fundamental role in the Brazil-France Season by holding a series of activities to celebrate 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
