CADE takes part in international agenda on competition defence
The president of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), Gustavo Augusto, participated in three international events aimed at strengthening competition policies, and promoting the exchange of experiences.
On 19 November, he attended the Global Antitrust Economics Conference, organised by the Concurrences and NYU Stern School of Business, in New York, US. The event gathered experts and authorities from different countries to discuss global trends in competition policy, enforcement, and digital economy.
Mr Augusto Gustavo also joined the Día de la Competencia del Perú, organised by the INDECOPI (Peruvian Institute for the Defence of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property), in Lima. During his presentation, he discussed the development and challenges of competition defence in digital markets in Brazil, highlighting recent cases analysed by CADE, as well as the debates surrounding the legislative proposal to regulate platforms.
Still in Lima, Mr Augusto participated in the Workshop on Fighting Bid-Rigging, promoted by the OECD and the IDECOPI, when experts discussed anticompetitive practices in public procurement. CADE’s president presented Brazil's experience in combating bid rigging and focused on methods to detect these practices, including the use of the Cérebro Project. He also shared some successful cases handled by the agency. In addition, the workshop provided an opportunity to discuss investigative challenges, as well as the best advocacy practices in the region.
For Mr Augusto, CADE's participation in these initiatives reinforces the commitment to international cooperation, and the development of modern public policies aligned with contemporary economic challenges. “By integrating technical and strategic debates with international partners, the authority strengthens its performance and contributes to improving competition defence in Brazil,” he concluded.
