INPI also works to stimulate innovation by using the intellectual property system in order to contribute to approximate the sectors involved in the development of innovation in Brazil, showing that the IP system has several mechanisms and instruments, in addition to protection of rights and legal protection of property.

The dissemination seeks to show the advantages of IP system, such as, for example, management of the companies’ IP portfolio, the use of technological information as a research source, commercialization of IP assets, among others, seeking the final goal of promoting businesses and better use of existing businesses.

In order to do so, the Coordination for Integration and Promotion of IP and Innovation (COART), an office linked to the General Coordination of Dissemination for Innovation (CGDI) and the Presidency, organizes the participation of the Institute in national events to disseminate the concept of intellectual property (IP), is a part of regional and national development committees and forums, and establishes partnerships with other institutions.

These partnerships have different objectives, but, in short, they are all directed to introduce the IP in public and private innovation policies and improvements of databases for development of studies and analyses to support policies.

For more information on the current partnerships, you can access the table available at the portal in Portuguese, with date, partner institution, and a version of the signed agreement for download.

These activities are carried out with the participation of the INPI regional offices, which report to COART and which main role is to insert the Institute in regional development actions.

The regional offices are distributed in the following states:

Regional Diffusion Office in Goiás (EDIR/GO);
Regional Diffusion Office in Pernambuco (EDIR/PE): Sections in Ceará (SEDIR/CE), Paraíba (SEDIR/PB) and Sergipe (SEDIR/SE);
Regional Diffusion Office in Minas Gerais (EDIR/MG): Section in Espírito Santo (SEDIR/ES);
Regional Diffusion Office in Rio Grande do Sul (EDIR/RS): Sections in Paraná (SEDIR/PR) and Santa Catarina (SEDIR/SC).

The Coordinations of Institutional Relations of the Federal District and São Paulo (COINS/DF and COINS/SP), linked to the Cabinet of the Presidency, are in charge of interlocuting with the Executive and Legislative Powers and the representative associations of the national productive sector. In addition, they carry out dissemination actions and the decentralized examination of Industrial Property assets.
