After defending his/her Master’s Dissertation or Doctoral Thesis, the student must perform some steps in order to be granted a diploma.

1. Submit the thesis or dissertation to INPI’s Library

The student shall submit two copies of the thesis or dissertation, bound as required by INPI, to Biblioteca Economista Claudio Treiguer, and send a .pdf version of the paper and a .doc version of the abstract and keywords (in Portuguese and English) by email.

They shall be sent to posgraduacao@inpi.gov.br and biblioteca@inpi.gov.br.

The printed copy shall be the final version of the thesis or dissertation, including the corrections suggested by the committee and containing the original approval sheet signed by all members of the examining committee. Please have in mind that the version submitted is the final version of your thesis/dissertation, which shall be read and cited by other scholars. Therefore, it is recommended to be as careful as possible with its technical and spell checking. Upon submission of the thesis or dissertation, it becomes an integral part of the Library’s archive, and the student cannot take it back for modifications.

After submitting it to the Library, the student shall receive a paper submission receipt, a document required to issue the diploma.

The conclusion paper shall be submitted within thirty (30) days of the date of the defense, plus sixty (60) days if modifications suggested by the committee are needed. The deadline for theses or dissertations approved with honors or distinction is always 30 days.

2. Debt clearance with INPI’s Library System

The student shall also request, at Biblioteca Economista Claudio Treiguer’s loan desk, a proof that he/she does not have in his possession works that have not yet been returned or fines due.

3. Request for issuance of diploma

It is important to note that simply submitting the conclusion paper to the Library does not guarantee that the diploma will be issued. For this to happen, the student shall request such issuance by submitting certain documents to the Academic Service (SERAC) of the PPGPI.

The documentation to be submitted shall include the following items:

  1. Document request form, duly filled and signed;
  2. Paper Submission Receipt;
  3. Debt Clearance Certificate with the institute’s Library;
  4. A .pdf copy of the conclusion paper, sent to posgraduacao@inpi.gov.br and biblioteca@inpi.gov.br;
  5. Updated personal documents (ID (other than driver’s license), birth/marriage/divorce certificate;
  6. Authorization Form filled  (download .doc here);
  7. Copy of the undergraduate diploma (front and back) (for master’s and doctoral students) and of the Master’s diploma (for doctoral students), in case of submission of certificates of completion at the time of enrollment.

4. Issuance of diploma

After delivery of the documentation, the diploma issuance process shall be filed with the Academic Service, which shall initiate the necessary procedures for its issuance and registration.

The student will be notified when the diploma is available.

5. Receiving the diploma

To receive the diploma, students shall appear in person at the PPGPI office or appoint an attorney-in-fact to receive for them. There is no need to authenticate the power of attorney.
