The Program
Biomedical and biological sciences are two rapidly expanding areas in the 21st Century, proving highly stimulating opportunities for innovative findings. This Program aims at selecting exceptional Brazilian students for a Full PhD at the BBS Yale Program ( Biological and Biomedical Sciences Joint Program).
The BBS Program aims primarily at the qualification of future leaderships in Biological and Biomedical sciences; it also aims at long-term changes in the quality of the Brazilian scientific production in a world led by intense competivity.
Candidates can find below the eight tracks of the BBS Program:
- Biochemistry, Quantitative Biology, Biophysics and Structural Biology
- Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
- Immunology
- Microbiology
- Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics, and Development
- Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology, and Physiology
- Neuroscience
- Plant Molecular Biology
The selected candidates will join the BBS Program, which is significantly different than post-graduation courses in Brazil. In the first year of the Program students will take two or three subjects each semester, taking from two to four turns at laboratory activities. Then, he/she will select a laboratory doctoral thesis supervisor, according to the options listed in the Public Notice of the Program.

Objectives
These are the objectives of the CAPES/YALE Doctorate Program in Biomedical Sciences:
- To select and qualify Brazilian students in the BBS University of Yale Program
- To encourage the qualification of leaderships who might significantly to the research areas of the Program, both in Brazil and abroad
- To strengthen areas of knowledge in process of consolidation in the Country
- To broaden levels of collaboration and joint publications among researchers both in Brazil and abroad
- To broaden Access of Brazilian researchers to international centers of excellence
- To allow wider international visibility to the Brazilian scientific, technological and cultural production
