Tiradentes Award

The Tiradentes Award is an initiative generated in response to a request from the Ministry of Defense (MD) to the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), aiming to expand the reach of the award that previously existed solely within the scope of the Ministry of Defense under the name Tiradentes Award.
To assess the relevance of the theme to the Defense area, its connection to the objectives of the National Defense Policy, actions of the National Defense Strategy, or the National Defense White Paper regarding the strategic projects of the Armed Forces will be considered. These documents can be accessed through the Ministry of Defense website on the Internet. Regarding the international security area, its repercussions for Brazil should also be considered.
Objectives
The Tiradentes Award aims to identify, give visibility, and value, through cash prizes and support for participation in academic-scientific congresses, dissertations, and theses by Brazilian authors whose themes are related to National Defense. Additionally, it seeks to stimulate the production of research and academic studies on defense-related topics, contributing to the formulation of public policies and the consolidation of national thought on defense matters.
The Tiradentes Award also aims to encourage, whenever possible, the broad dissemination, both nationally and internationally, of results and products derived from partnerships between the Ministry of Defense and CAPES, such as the Program for Support to Teaching and Scientific and Technological Research in National Defense (PRÓ-DEFESA) and the Academic Cooperation Program in National Defense (PROCAD-DEFESA).
Awards
The Tiradentes Prize will have two award categories: Master's Dissertations and Doctoral Theses.
The Tiradentes National Defense Award consists of:
- Payment, by the Ministry of Defense and by deposit into a current account, to the authors of the winning works in each of the categories, in the following amounts, already deducting applicable taxes:

- Airfare and daily allowances, funded by CAPES, for the author and one of the dissertation or thesis advisors to attend the award ceremony in Brasília. Airfare will be covered only for routes within the Brazilian territory.
- Certificate of award for the author and the main advisor, co-advisor(s) of each awarded dissertation or thesis.]
- Prize for the first, second, and third places in the Master's Dissertation and Doctoral Thesis categories, with a value of R$3,000.00 (three thousand reais) for each author, to be implemented by CAPES's Directorate of Programs and Scholarships in the Country (DPB).
- Prize for the main advisor of the first-placed dissertation or thesis in the Master's Dissertation and Doctoral Thesis categories, with support for participation in an international academic-scientific event, following the criteria stipulated in Ordinance No. 235, of December 7, 2011, to be implemented by CAPES's Directorate of International Relations (DRI).
- An honorable mention certificate may be awarded to works classified in 4th place, per category, judged by the Committee as of recognized quality.
Registration
The registration for each dissertation or thesis must be done exclusively through the website https://pcd.capes.gov.br/inscricao until July 11, 2022.
