Visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Guyana, on the occasion of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
At the invitation of the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit Georgetown on February 28th and 29th. The President will take part as main guest at the closing ceremony of the 46th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The meeting will address topics such as sustainable development and food and nutritional security and will give new momentum to Brazil's relations with Caribbean countries. During the first half of 2024, Guyana holds the presidency of the organization.
CARICOM, established in 1973 with its headquarters in Georgetown, seeks to promote economic integration, social development, foreign policy coordination and security cooperation among its members. It comprises Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
President Lula will hold working meetings with President Ali and the President of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, to discuss issues of bilateral and trilateral interest. The meetings will offer an opportunity to deepen dialogue between the countries, with an emphasis on the areas of energy and the integration of physical and digital infrastructure.
