Experts from ILO and Brazil participate in a meeting on decent work and social justice in Lisbon
Lisbon hosted, from February 10th to 14th, the Academy on Decent Work for Social Justice, an event organized by the International Training Center of the International Labor Organization in Turin (ITC-ILO), the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training of Portugal (IEFP), and the ACTION/Portugal Project of the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal.
The meeting was held in the context of technological, environmental, social, and economic changes that have spread across the world and directly impact on the world of work. The event aimed to facilitate discussions and exchange of experiences between Portuguese-speaking countries, with a focus on coordinating policies on employment, social protection, and vocational training, with a view to finding integrated solutions to current challenges.
The discussions held covered topics such as innovative policies for the realization of rights in a changing world of work; job creation and training in the era of digitization and the green economy; and data and indicators for the labor market and social protection. The event is expected to be a significant milestone for the strengthening of policies on employment and social protection in Portuguese-speaking countries.
Representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS), the Office of the Prosecutor General for Labor Affairs (MPT), the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), the ILO Office for Brazil, and the Unified Central Worker's Movement (CUT-Brazil) participated in the discussions held and exchanges of experience that took place.
During the event, the "Knowledge Fair" was held to showcase good practices on topics of relevance to the world of work, including the South-South Cooperation Program under the partnership between Brazil and the ILO, that is, "Social Justice for the Global South".
The ILO-Brazil partnership is a strategic collaboration between ILO and the Brazilian Government to promote sustainable development and decent work in the developing world. Since 2009, the partnership has reached out to more than 40 countries with about 20 projects, and an investment of more than 27 million dollars.
