ABC participates in the Meeting of New Mayors 2025
The Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the Special Advisory Office on Parliamentary and Federative Affairs (AFEPA), under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (MRE), will be present at the Meeting of New Mayors, which will take place from February 11th to 13th, at the Ulysses Guimaraes Convention Center, in Brasilia, Federal District. The event will bring together more than 20,000 people, including mayors, governors, and municipal and state administrators from all over the country.
In the exhibition area, MRE will have a booth where the Agency will showcase the international technical cooperation initiatives carried out jointly with Brazilian municipal governments. Currently, there are 31 multilateral and decentralized cooperation projects in progress, with a total investment of approximately 150 million Brazilian reals. These projects are implemented in partnership with international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), UNESCO, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), or with partner countries, and cover areas such as education, sustainable urban development, transport, health, culture, and the environment.
Local development
ABC's participation in the Meeting of New Mayors reinforces the role of international cooperation as a strategic tool for local development. The initiatives underway with Brazilian municipal governments have contributed to strengthening public policies in priority areas, in addition to fostering the integration of municipal governments with global agendas, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.
These projects have common objectives such as: strengthening the institutional and technical capacities of the municipal governments; advancing sustainable and integrated development; improving the quality of public policies in priority areas; fostering innovation and use of technologies in the public management sector; and promoting equality, social inclusion, and human rights.
The booth
The booth of ABC and AFEPA at the Meeting of New Mayors will be a reference point for municipal managers who seek information on how to participate in international cooperation actions. At the booth, technical cooperation projects will be showcased, videos screened, and informative materials handed out, all of which containing some of the results achieved under the ongoing projects; likewise, printed material will be distributed with guidelines on how municipal governments can express their interest in developing international cooperation actions.
In addition to his presence during the three days of the event, Ambassador Ruy Pereira, director of ABC, will make a presentation on February 13th about the work carried out by the Agency.
