Visit to Brazil of the Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Margaret Chan – Brasilia, February 23-24

The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Margaret Chan, will make an official visit to Brazil on February 23 and 24, when she will be received by President Dilma Rousseff and hold meetings with the Ministers involved in the Brazilian response to the dissemination of the Zika virus. The Director General of the WHO will be accompanied by the Director of the Pan American Health Organization and Regional Director of the WHO in the Americas, Dr. Carissa Etienne.

In the context of the declaration by the WHO, on February 1, of Public Health Emergency of International Concern, the visit aims to provide the opportunity to the Director General of the WHO to get to know in depth the policies of response to the health emergency and the results of researches carried out by Brazil. It will also be an opportunity to deepen the dialogue on global efforts, coordinated by the WHO, of surveillance, response and research to deal with the emergency.
