The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ambassador Roberto Azevêdo, is on a visit to Brazil this week. In Brasilia, he has scheduled meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Armando Monteiro, and the Minister of Finance, Nelson Barbosa.
In his meeting with Minister Mauro Vieira, the Director-General of the WTO addressed the prospects for the Organization in view of the positive outcomes of the Nairobi Ministerial Meeting, held in December 2015. Once he was informed of Brazil's imminent ratification of the Trade Facilitation Agreement, Ambassador Azevêdo expressed his expectation that the number of signatures needed for its entry into force be reached as soon as possible.
The agenda of the WTO Director-General in Brazil also includes meetings with entrepreneurs and representatives of the domestic private sector, including the National Confederation of Industry, on the 29th, in Brasilia.
