PRESS RELEASE N. 427
Visit of the United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Brasília
On October 3, Brazil's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the meeting, the ministers underscored the positive moment for the bilateral relations as reflected in the visit of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the United Arab Emirates in April and in the invitation to UAE President Sheikh Xeique Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit Brazil in 2024, when the two countries celebrate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The two foreign ministers examined the bilateral agenda and expressed their willingness to strenghten the strategic partnership in areas including trade, investment, energy, defense, food safety, agriculture, science, technology, tourism, culture, and space cooperation. They also highlighted UAE investments in Brazil, in particular in infrastructure. In addition, they discussed cooperation in the promotion of sustainable development and the fight against climate change in view of the COP 28 and COP30, to be held in Dubai and Belém do Pará respectively. In the field of defense, they agreed to expand cooperation among the two governments.
Brazil welcomed the United Arab Emirates as a country invited to become a BRICS member and reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to a more balanced global economic order and to reforms in global governance.
