Visit of the President of the Republic to Indonesia (October 23-24)
The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will make a State visit to Indonesia on October 23 and 24, 2025. This will be the first visit by a Brazilian president to that country since 2008 and a reciprocal visit following President Prabowo Subianto’s trip to Brazil last July.
On the 23rd, in Jakarta, President Lula will hold a working meeting with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues. He will also participate in the Brazil-Indonesia Economic Forum, which will bring together leaders from the private sectors of both countries.
On the morning of the 24th, also in Jakarta, President Lula will visit the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), where he will meet with its Secretary-General, Kao Kim Hourn. Brazil is the only Latin American country to maintain a Sectoral Dialogue Partnership with ASEAN, under which initiatives of political coordination and multisectoral cooperation are undertaken.
In the context of the visit, the governments of Brazil and Indonesia will sign cooperation agreements in multiple areas including science, technology and innovation, energy and mineral resources, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as well as statistical cooperation.
Brazil and Indonesia established a Strategic Partnership in 2008, the first for Brazil in Southeast Asia. The bilateral relationship has deepened in many areas such as agricultural trade, bioenergy, defense and sustainable development. In 2024, trade exchange reached a record high of $6.3 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of $2.6 billion.
