Visit of the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs to Montevideo – May 3rd 2022
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Carlos Alberto Franco França, will pay a visit to Montevideo on May 3, when he will hold a working meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Ambassador Francisco Bustillo.
The Foreign Ministers will discuss the modernization of MERCOSUR and review the key issues of the bilateral agenda, as well as other regional and multilateral matters.
Brazil plays a prominent role in Uruguay's foreign trade, and in 2021 was the country's second trading partner: first supplier and second consumer. The trade flow is composed mainly of manufactured goods (81%).
The bilateral trade flow experienced a strong recovery in 2021, with an increase of 35.2% compared to the previous year, reaching $ 3.8 billion. Exports increased by 17.5%, reaching the value of $ 2 billion, while Brazilian imports grew by 63.3%, totaling $ 1.8 billion.
