PRESS RELEASE N. 167
Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Bolivia - La Paz, May 04, 2023
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, will undertake an official visit to La Paz on May 4, 2023, when he will hold a working meeting with his counterpart, Rogelio Mayta. On this occasion, they will discuss the process of resuming bilateral relations, with focus on trade, energy integration, physical infrastructure, and cooperation in defense and security matters, among others. They will also exchange perspectives of cooperation at the regional level, particularly in the Amazon and South American contexts.
During his visit to La Paz, Minister Mauro Vieira is expected to deliver to President Luís Arce President Lula's letters inviting him to participate in the Meeting of Presidents of South American Countries, scheduled to take place on May 30th in Brasilia, as well as in the Summit Meeting of ACTO Member Countries, on August 8-9, in Belém do Pará.
Bolivia, a country with which Brazil shares its largest land border, is a strategic partner in the energy sector, with a particular emphasis on natural gas trade and the potential for cooperation in hydroelectricity. Bilateral trade has shown a clear recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels, reaching just over $3.6 billion in 2022, an increase of 26.7%.
