The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, will make his first official visit to the Republic of Peru on April 29. On the occasion, he will take part, along with the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Armando Monteiro Neto, in the signing ceremony of the Brazil-Peru Economic and Trade Expansion Agreement.

The Agreement will establish rules on investments, services and government procurement between the two countries, increasing circulation of goods and persons and stimulating the attraction of companies and investments. This is the first time that Brazil signs an international agreement on government procurement.

The two Ministers will also sign an agreement to anticipate tariff reductions for certain Brazilian goods exported to Peru, originally scheduled for 2019.

During the meeting, Minister Mauro Vieira and his counterpart from Peru, Minister Ana María Sánchez, will address the themes on the bilateral and regional agendas, including infrastructure integration, border cooperation and the fight against drug trafficking.

In 2015, bilateral trade with Peru totalled USD 3 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of USD 559 million.  Brazil was Peru's fourth major trading partner. The two countries share a 2,899-km border, the longest border of Peru and the second largest border of Brazil.
