PRESS RELEASE N. 46
Visit of the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency to Brazil
The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Dr. Fatih Birol, will be in Brasília for a work agenda on January 31st and February 1st, as part of the celebrations of the Agency's 50th anniversary.
The Executive Director's official agenda includes meetings with the Vice-President of the Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Mines and Energy, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, and the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation. On January 31, Dr. Birol will deliver a conference titled "Brazil’s leadership role in the new global energy economy" at the Rio Branco Institute.
Brazil has been an associate member of the IEA since 2017. In the past years, the Brazilian government and the Agency have been deepening bilateral cooperation, in particular on fair energy transition, the financing of a fair energy transition, and bioenergy. In 2024, the Agency will participate as a guest organization in the Energy Transition Working Group and the Task Force for Global Mobilization against Climate Change of the G20, under the Brazilian presidency.
The IEA is one of the world’s most respected organizations in the energy sector. Its publications – such as the “World Energy Outlook” and “Net Zero by 2050” – are a reference in decision-making by governments and companies.
The Agency offers training in energy efficiency, new technologies, energy modelling and statistics and public policies for renewable energy sources.
