Visit of Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira to Italy – Rome, November 13, 2017
Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira (Foreign Affairs) will make an official visit to Italy next Monday, November 13, when he will keep a working meeting with his Italian counterpart, Angelino Alfano.
At the meeting, the Ministers will review the main themes of the bilateral relationship, consolidated with the strategic partnership established in 2007. They will also discuss the negotiation between Mercosur and the European Union, in light of the progress made at the negotiating meeting this week, in Brasilia. Alfano and Aloysio Nunes will evaluate the current state of the Brazilian request to join the OECD.
The Foreign Ministers will also address multilateral issues, in view of Italy’s presence in the United Nations Security Council, until the end of the year, and of Brazil’s presence in the United Nations Human Rights Council, for the 2017-2019 triennium, and the collaboration between the two countries within the UN forces in Lebanon.
Minister Aloysio will present to Alfano an overview of the Brazilian economy and the progress made in recent months, particularly the opportunities for investments in infrastructure.
Italy is Brazil’s ninth largest trading partner, the ninth largest destination for exports and the sixth largest source for Brazilian imports. It was the 12th largest investor in Brazil in 2016. It is estimated that more than 1200 Italian companies operate in Brazil, in sectors as diverse as real state, telephony, wholesale food, machinery and equipment manufacturing, auto parts and accessories.
