Visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, will undertake an official visit to Brazil on January 18th and 19th. In Brasília, Minister Wang will be hosted by his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira.
On this occasion, the minsiters will co-chair the 4th Meeting of the Brazil-China Global Strategic Dialogue, in which bilateral, multilateral and regional issues will be addressed, in addition to other topics, such as the Brazilian G20 presidency; global governance reform; and bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology and innovation.
Since 2009, China has been Brazil's largest trading partner and one of the main sources of investments. In 2023, trade flow hit a record high of $157.5 billion, with Brazilian exports totaling $104.3 billion and imports amounting to $53.2 billion, accounting for a Brazilian surplus of $51.1 billion. Last year, trade with China accounted for 52% of Brazil's total surplus.
In 1993, Brazil and China established a Strategic Partnership, elevated to a Global Strategic Partnership in 2012. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
