Visits by Minister of Foreign Affairs to Europe – Paris, Rome, Milan and Brussels, June 3-9, 2015

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, will be in Europe from June 3 to 9, to take part in international meetings and hold bilateral meetings with some of his European counterparts.

On June 3 and 4, in Paris, he will participate in the Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM 2015) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), at the invitation of the OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria. The theme of the meeting will be “Unlocking investment for sustainable growth and jobs”. On the occasion,  along with Brazilian Finance Minister Joaquim Levy, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will sign cooperation agreement which will further deepen and formalize the Brazil-OECD relationship.

On June 3, on the margins of the MCM 2015, Minister Mauro Vieira will have a working meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development of France, Laurent Fabius. The meeting will allow the monitoring of several projects of the Brazil-France Strategic Partnership particularly in the areas of cross-border cooperation; defense; science, technology and innovation; and education. Other issues to be covered include trade and investment; international peace and security; global prosperity and governance; climate change; and UN reform.

On June 4, Minister Mauro Vieira will attend an informal meeting of Ministers of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Ministers from about 30 member countries will exchange views on the current state of negotiations of the Doha Development Round and the prospects for the future, particularly with regard to the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference taking place in Nairobi in December this year.

On June 5, in Rome, Minister Mauro Vieira will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Paolo Gentiloni. They will address the main issues of the bilateral agenda, including trade, investment; small and medium-sized enterprises; cooperation on defense; and education. They will also discuss bi-regional and international issues, including the 7th Italy-Latin America and Caribbean Conference, human rights, and the United Nations.

On June 6, also in Rome, the Minister will attend the 39th Session of the Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), during whichthe election for the post of director-general of the organization will be hold, the only candidate in which is the incumbent, Professor José Graziano.

On June 8, at the invitation of the Italian Government, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will visit the Brazil Pavilion at Expo Milan 2015.

On  June 9, in Brussels, he will participate in the Preparatory Meeting of Foreign Ministers for the 2nd CELAC-EU Summit (June 10-11) and will meet with the High Representative of the Eruopean Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. They will discuss the principal bilateral initiatives currently in progress, especially with regard to the next Brazil-EU Summit, in Brasilia, as well as current issues of the regional and international agendas.
