PRESS RELEASE N. 201
Removal of Cuba from the Unilateral U.S. List of Countries Not Fully Cooperating in Combating Terrorism
The Brazilian government welcomed the decison by the United States government to remove Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that are not fully cooperating in combating terrorism.
Brazil believes this is an important step towards the right direction and urges the U.S. government to also remove Cuba from its unilateral list of State sponsors of terrorism, from which stem severe and unjustified sanctions against the Caribbean nation.
The maintenance of Cuba on the list of States sponsoring terrorism is unanimously rejected by Latin American and Caribbean countries, as stated in the Special Declaration approved during the last Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) (Kingstown, March 1st), and by the vast majority of the international community.
