The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, is making a State visit to Brazil between October 23-25, 2011. In 2011, the 120-year anniversary of the Ukrainian immigration to Brazil is being celebrated. On the 24, in São Paulo, President Yanukovych will meet with businesspeople and with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Brazil, which at present exceeds 400,000 people. On the 25, in Brasília, he will be received by President Dilma Rousseff, and will pay courtesy calls to authorities of the Legislative and Judicial Branches.
Brazil and Ukraine maintain a strategic partnership, of which space cooperation is a main component. The binational enterprise Alcântara Cyclone Space is developing the Cyclone-4 rocket, to be launched by the Alcântara Center, in Maranhão.
The Presidents will address possibilities to strengthen the bilateral relationship in areas such as biofuels and sports. Agreements on defense, health, agriculture and livestock and trade promotion will be signed. In 2011, trade exchange between Brazil and Ukraine will exceed US$ 1 billion, an amount four times higher than that recorded in 2003.
In addition to the bilateral agenda, the Presidents will go over global affairs, such as the current economic situation, the preparation for the Rio+20 Conference, issues on peace and security and the reform of global governance institutions.
