The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Horacio Cartes, to make state visit to Brazil – Brasília, September 30, 2013
The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, will visit Brazil on September 30, 2013, when he will be hosted by President Dilma Rousseff. This is the first visit the Paraguayan President makes to Brazil since he took office on August 15, and has the status of a state visit.
The Presidents will address the main themes on the regional agenda, with particular attention to the Mercosur, and will continue the dialogue on the broad bilateral agenda, with emphasis on technical cooperation, border development, trade, infrastructure and initiatives to combat poverty. Cooperation between Brazil and Paraguay shows prospects for the expansion of partnerships in public safety, agriculture, health, tourism, defense, infrastructure and social technologies.
In 2012, trade between Brazil and Paraguay reached US$ 3.6 billion, an increase of 38% of Brazilian imports of Paraguayan products in comparison with 2011. From January to August 2013, bilateral trade flow increased 23% over the same period last year.
