The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Serguei Lavrov, to visit Brazil – Rio de Janeiro, June 11, 2013
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Serguei Lavrov, will visit Brazil on June 11, 2013, when he will meet with the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
The Foreign Ministers will address the deepening of the bilateral Strategic Partnership (established in 2002), as a follow-up to the visit of President Dilma Rousseff to Russia last December, and of the Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev to Brazil in February.
The Ministers will also examine themes on the international agenda, in particular, issues of peace and security, the situation in Syria and the Middle East, as well as the reform of multilateral institutions of political and economic governance. Russia presides over the G20 in the current year; Brazil will organize the BRICS Summit in 2014.
Trade between Brazil and Russia increased over threefold between 2002 and 2012, from US$1.68 billion to US$5.93 billion, after reaching US$7.16 billion in 2011.
