The Minister of External Relations of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín to visit Brazil – Brasília, October 26, 2011
The Minister of External Relations of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín, will visit Brazil on October 26. The Colombian Foreign Minister will be received by the Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, and will head the Colombian delegation to the 2 nd Meeting of the Brazil-Colombia Bilateral Commission. Brazil and Colombia currently hold non-permanent seats at the United Nations Security Council.
The Brazil-Colombia Bilateral Commission was created in 2009, with a view to establishing a privileged concertation forum between the two countries. In addition to political dialogue on bilateral, regional and global affairs, both Foreign Ministers, within the Bilateral Commission, will address initiatives on science and technology, education and culture, agricultural industry and integration of productive chains.
Agreements will be signed on scientific, technological and educational cooperation, with special attention to personnel training, student and faculty exchange and support to joint research projects. There will be also agreements on facilitating the exchange of experiences in the combat against violence and sexual exploitation, promotion of human rights, food security, agriculture and sustainable urban development.
Trade exchange between Brazil and Colombia has recorded significant growth in the past ten years. Between 2002 and 2010, trade flow between the two South American countries has expanded at an annual rate of 16.46%, from US$ 747 million in 2002 to US$ 3.27 billion in 2010. In this period, Brazilian exports went from US$ 638.5 million to US$2.19 billion, whereas Colombian exports went from US$ 108.49 million to US$ 1.07 billion.
The investment flow between the two countries is also on the rise. The current stock of Brazilian investment in Colombia is around US$ 3 billion.
