PRESS RELEASE N. 372
Fourth cycle of round of talks between the Government of the Republic of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN)
The Brazilian government congratulates the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) for the successful conclusion of another round of peace talks, held between August 14 and September 4 in Caracas, Venezuela.
The fourth round of talks marks new advances in the peace process, on the occasion of 1 year since the National Participation Committee (CNP) has been established, and the bilateral, national, and temporary ceasefire (CFBNT) has been in force, along with the Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (MMV).
Brazil considers the results of the last round of negotiations positive. During this round, the parties advanced discussions and commitments on social participation and the establishment of a political and conceptual framework on humanitarian actions and dynamics.
As a guarantor of the peace process, alongside Chile, Cuba, Norway, Mexico and Venezuela, Brazil reaffirms its confidence in advancing negotiations and hopes that dialogue will be enhanced so as to overcome violence and build a sustainable and lasting peace in Colombia.
