The dispatch of a Humanitarian Mission to Haiti – Joint Press Release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Regional Development
The Brazilian Government, through inter-ministerial action involving Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Defense (MD), Foreign Affairs (MRE), Health (MS) and Regional Development (MDR), defined within the scope of the Inter-ministerial Working Group on International Humanitarian Cooperation, decided, on August 18, to send a Multidisciplinary Humanitarian Mission to Haiti as an emergency response to the tragedy caused by the earthquake on August 14.
The mission will include the participation of a Brazilian Air Force KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft, scheduled to depart for Port-au-Prince next weekend, with the purpose of carrying personnel and material to assist the humanitarian emergency.
The mission will have teams of specialists and experts in search and rescue in collapsed urban structures, in addition to medical kits and strategic inputs for emergency pharmaceutical assistance, donated by the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
The structure of the mission may be adjusted according to the understandings reached with, and needs of, the Haitian government.
On the occasion of the International Humanitarian Day, celebrated today, August 19, the Government of Brazil reiterates its expression of solidarity with the Haitian people and reaffirms its commitment to the well-being and stability of Haiti.
