Sixth Meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working group on the Post-2015 Development Agenda

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, chaired the opening session of the Sixth Meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The meeting was held on February 9 at the Itamaraty Palace, with the participation of the Minister of Social Development and Fight against Hunger, Mrs. Tereza Campello; of the Minister-Chief of the Secretary for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic, Mrs. Ideli Salvatti; of the Executive Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Laudemir Müller.

The Ministerial meeting addressed the Brazilian coordination for the final stage of negotiations at the United Nations on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which includes defining the new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Post-2015 Agenda represents the range of global efforts to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable development, including national actions and commitments to international cooperation.

The SDGs, whose creation was decided at the Rio + 20 Conference, in 2012, are the core of the Agenda, and will continue the work initiated by the Millennium Development Goals, to be concluded in 2015. The proposal under negotiation includes 17 goals on the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable developments.

Brazil has actively participated in the discussions on the Post-2015 Agenda and has maintained an effort of national coordination to build the Brazilian positions on the subject. On the final stage of negotiations, Brazil will continue its engagement, in particular on the definition of means to support developing countries on the implementation of the SDGs, including financing, technology transfer and training of human resources.
