Situation in Venezuela
The President of the Republic chaired a meeting this morning, January 3, regarding the recent events in Venezuela. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff of the Civil Office of the Presidency, the Minister of the Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic, as well as representatives from the Secretariat for Institutional Relations and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
On the occasion, the President of the Republic reiterated the terms of his statement, published earlier this morning.
The Minister of Defense indicated that there is no abnormal movement along the Brazil–Venezuela border, which will continue to be monitored, and that he remains in contact with the Governor of Roraima.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs reported on the contacts maintained with his counterparts in recent hours and indicated that, so far, there is no information regarding Brazilian nationals among the possible victims of the attacks. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also stated that he is in permanent contact with the Embassy of Brazil in Venezuela to monitor the internal situation.
A new meeting is scheduled for later this afternoon to provide an update on the situation.
