PRESS RELEASE N. 416
Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh
The displacement of thousands of Armenian civilians in and around the region of Nagorno-Karabakh is a matter of great concern to the Brazilian government, in particular due to its serious humanitarian and political implications.
Brazil believes it is essential to guarantee the safety of the resident population and the protection of their rights. It also rejects the resort to violence with the aim of changing the political status in the region.
Sustainable peace and prosperity for the entire region can only be achieved through dialogue-based solutions and diplomacy.
The humanitarian and security situation in and around Nagorno-Karabakh will remain a matter of concern to Brazil in coordination with the other members of the United Nations Security Council, in particular considering that Brazil will soon assume the rotating presidency of the body, on October 1st.
