Singapore opens its market to Brazilian frozen crustaceans and mollusks – Joint Press Release by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA)
The Brazilian government was pleased to learn of the Singaporean government's decision to grant health authorization for the importation of frozen crustaceans, including shrimp and lobster, and bivalve mollusks, including oysters and mussels, from Brazil.
The existing international health certificate, now renegotiated, already allowed exports of extractive fishing and aquaculture products.
The announcement is a significant achievement, considering that Singapore has an average per capita consumption of 22kg of these products annually. In 2022, Singapore imported $937 million worth of fish, with major sources including Malaysia, China and Norway. Within this total, crustaceans accounted for $223 million and mollusks represented $115 million.
This latest accomplishment adds to the recent opening of the Singaporean market to processed beef and pork from Brazil. Both of theses achievements are the result of the joint efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
