PRESS RELEASE N. 523
Singapore authorizes bovine gelatin and collagen imports from Brazil — Joint press release from MRE and MAPA
Singapore has announced the opening of its market for bovine gelatin and collagen from Brazil. The negotiations for the approval of the International Sanitary Certificate (ISC), required for the trade of such products for human consumption, lasted about a month.
In 2022, the Asian country imported the equivalent of US$ 62 million of the two products, with approximately US$ 6 million in bovine gelatin, mainly from China, and about US$ 56 million in collagen, coming from the United States.
Bovine collagen is a material with a number of technological and nutritional properties. It is widely used in the food industry for the production of sausages, and as a raw material for manufacturing medicines and cosmetics.
This new announcement adds to the recent opening of the Singaporean market for frozen crustaceans and bivalve molluscs and for processed beef and pork from Brazil, which should help increase trade flows with that country. The announcements are the result of a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).
