PRESS RELEASE N. 576
Signing of Peace Agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Brazilian government has welcomed the announcement that the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and of Rwanda signed, on December 4, the Washington Agreements for Peace and Prosperity, which include the “Framework for Regional Economic Integration,” establishing a set of instruments aimed at ending hostilities in eastern DRC.
Brazil congratulates the governments of the DRC, of Rwanda and of all countries involved in the mediation efforts, especially those of the United States and of Qatar, and the African Union facilitator, Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbé.
Brazil hopes that the commitments undertaken within these instruments will enable the consolidation of lasting peace in eastern DRC and in the Great Lakes Region.
