PRESS RELEASE N. 576
Signing of Peace Agreement between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo
The Brazilian government received with satisfaction the announcement that the governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda signed, on December 4th, the Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity, which include the “Framework for Regional Economic Integration,” comprising a set of instruments aimed at the cessation of hostilities in eastern DRC.
Brazil congratulates the governments of the DRC, Rwanda, and all countries involved in the mediation efforts, especially the United States and Qatar, as well as the African Union facilitator, the President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbe.
Brazil expresses its expectation that the commitments made within the framework of these instruments will enable the consolidation of a lasting peace in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
