Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and Chile on Cooperation in Telecommunications and Digital Economy

The ministers of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Ernesto Araújo, and Chile, Teodoro Ribera Neumann, signed today, via videoconference, a Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and Chile on Cooperation in Telecommunications and Digital Economy.

The instrument will allow for closer bilateral cooperation in areas of strategic importance for the two countries, including digital connection, telecommunications infrastructure, connectivity, and flow of data between the two countries. The memorandum also stipulates cooperation on the internet of things, 5G technology, and artificial intelligence and its applications.

The document will also make it possible to strengthen and expand the regional digital market, to promote convergence between the digital agendas of the Pacific Alliance and of  MERCOSUR, and to interconnect the regional digital market with digital markets on other continents.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is an evidence of the strategic aspect of the relations between the two countries and the willingness of presidents Jair Bolsonaro and Sebastián Piñera to continue to work together to promote prosperity, freedom, and democracy.
