PRESS RELEASE N. 233
Russia and other members of the Eurasian Economic Union open their bovine semen and bovine embryo markets
The Brazilian government welcomed the news that the five member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan – have opened their markets for Brazilian exports of bovine semen and bovine embryos (“in vivo” and “in vitro”).
This is a further major trade expansion in the EEU for Brazilian agricultural products. Exports of live pigs and of live cattle to EEU countries were authorized in early May of this year and in September 2023, respectively.
The openings are the result of a recent improvement in bilateral contacts with the EEU through the efforts by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa).
In the first four months of 2024, Brazil exported just over $325 million in agribusiness products to the EEU, in particular soybean, beef, green coffee and raw sugar.
The new markets in the EEU add to the 61 openings by the Brazilian agribusiness sector in 27 countries this year, totaling 139 openings across 51 countries since the beginning of President Lula's term.
These openings are the result of joint efforts between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa).
