PRESS RELEASE N. 14
Results of presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Brazilian government notes that the Constitutional Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) published on January 9 the final results of Congolese presidential elections, and congratulates President Félix Tshisekedi on his re-election.
Brazil wishes the re-elected president every success and expresses its readiness to continue deepening relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo toward the development of both countries, the promotion of South-South cooperation and the fight against poverty, hunger and climate crisis.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is the second largest African country and home to the fourth largest population in Africa. Brazil and the Democratic Republic of Congo possess the world’s largest rainforests. The two countries have worked closely together in a number of forums and signed the “United for Our Forests” statement in August 2023, during the Amazon Summit, held in Belém, when President Félix Tshisekedi met with President Lula.
