PRESS RELEASE NO. 210
Repatriation of remaining Brazilians from the Gaza Strip
A new group of Brazilian nationals and their Palestinian relatives was evacuated today from the Gaza Strip in an operation coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In all, twelve people, including six minors, arrived in Jordan this afternoon from Gaza.
This humanitarian initiative, aimed at individuals who could not be evacuated in earlier operations, stems from efforts by the Brazilian Government with the authorities of countries in the region. The contacts were coordinated by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry and carried out by the Embassies of Brazil in Amman and Tel Aviv, together with the Representation Office in Ramallah. Preparations were conducted confidentially to safeguard the evacuees’ security.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged transport and accommodation for the group, provided an escort, and dispatched teams from the Ramallah Office and the Embassy in Amman to meet and accompany them. After spending the night in Jordan, they are expected to be repatriated tomorrow, 21 May, on a commercial flight to Brazil. Those requiring assistance on arrival will be supported by a team from the Ministry of Social Development and the Fight against Hunger.
Since October 2023, 127 Brazilians and their immediate family members have been evacuated from the Gaza Strip. Altogether, 1,572 people located in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza who expressed a wish to leave have been brought out of the region by the Brazilian Government.
The Ministry continues to monitor the security situation in the Gaza Strip and strongly advises against any travel to the area.
