Reappointment of Rafael Grossi as Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency
The Brazilian government congratulates Rafael Mariano Grossi for his reappointment as Director General of the IAEA for the 2024-2027 term, which took place yesterday, September 25, on the occasion of the 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in Vienna.
Rafael Grossi's candidacy for another term as head of the IAEA had the support of Brazil.
Under Grossi's mandate, the Agency has emphasized its role in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy, thus contributing to sustainable development and human well-being. Furthermore, the DG has played a crucial role as head of the organization in challenging times facing the international scenario, in particular in responding to crises related to non-proliferation and nuclear safety.
Finally, the Brazilian support also falls under the framework of the strategic partnership between Brazil and Argentina in the nuclear field, whose most eloquent representation is the Brazilian-Argentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials (ABACC).
