Presidential Election in Somalia

The Brazilian Government welcomes the election, by the Somali parliament, of Hassan Sheikh Mohammed as the President of Somalia, on 10 September. The election successfully and peacefully closes the transition process in this African country.

The Brazilian Government expresses its confidence that the reconciliation process in Somalia will continue to be carried out within normalcy and its expectation that this process will allow for institutional strengthening, peace consolidation and national reconstruction in Somalia.
