Plan for a new military offensive in Gaza

The Government of Brazil expresses its grave concern over Israel’s approval of a plan to expand its military offensive in the Gaza Strip and to establish an enduring presence in that territory, in disregard of international law.

Considering that any further escalation could jeopardise ongoing negotiations for a cessation of hostilities and the release of hostages, Brazil urges Israel to refrain from implementing the aforementioned plan.

Any Israeli operation that results in the displacement of civilians would further exacerbate the already tragic humanitarian situation, as well as the toll of death and destruction in the State of Palestine.

Brazil recalls Israel’s obligation to ensure the uninterrupted provision of basic services and humanitarian assistance in the Strip, and renews its appeal for the unimpeded entry of essential supplies into Gaza.
