Passing of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney

The Brazilian government was saddened to learn of the passing of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, yesterday, February 29th.

Mulroney, who held office from 1984 to 1993, was a leading advocate of international social and environmental causes and a great friend of Brazil. His work against South African “apartheid” and his role in creating the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are recognized. Agreements that still govern relations between Brazil and Canada, such as the Air Transport Agreement (1986), were signed during his term.
