PRESS RELEASE NO. 27
Opening of agricultural markets in the United States – joint MRE/MAPA press release
The Brazilian Government welcomes the announcement by the United States Government authorizing the export of hay (Alfalfa Hay and Timothy Hay), yerba mate, and dried clove flowers, without the requirement for phytosanitary certification.
This decision by the U.S. authorities reflects the strong international credibility of Brazil’s sanitary and phytosanitary control system.
In 2024, Brazil solidified its position as one of the leading exporters of agricultural products to the United States, particularly beef, coffee, and orange juice. The opening of the U.S. market to these new products is expected to foster further growth in Brazilian exports for the benefiting sectors.
With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness has achieved seven new market openings in 2025, totaling 307 new business opportunities since the beginning of 2023.
These results stem from the joint efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
