Official visit to Brazil by Kenya’s Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi
On 16 May, at the Itamaraty Palace, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira received the Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya, Musalia Mudavadi, on an official visit to Brazil.
The ministers discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations, emphasising the expansion and diversification of trade and investment and the enhancement of technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
They also addressed items on the international agenda, including the conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the United Nations-mandated Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, led by Kenya.
Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira briefed his counterpart on preparations for the Second Brazil-Africa Dialogue on Food Security, Fight Against Hunger and Rural Development (Brasília, 20–22 May) and for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP 30 (Belém, 10–21 November).
In 2024, Brazil and Kenya marked 60 years of diplomatic relations. Kenya is one of Africa’s most dynamic economies, with average annual growth of around 5 per cent. Bilateral trade totalled USD 94.7 million last year, of which 97 per cent corresponded to Brazilian exports.
