Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet
The Brazilian Government has received, with great satisfaction, the announcement that the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, which is comprised of the Tunisian General Labor Union; the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicraft; the Tunisian Order of Lawyers, and the Tunisian Human Rights League.
The national dialogue promoted by these four civil society organizations has played a decisive role in overcoming differences between government and opposition, throughout the successful transition process in the country. The Quartet's mediation efforts, as well as its ability to build consensus and its tireless commitment to foster open dialogue were crucial to the adoption of the new Constitution in Tunisia, in January 2014, and to the conduction of free and transparent general elections, in December 2014, which enabled the country to complete, in an exemplary manner, its transition to democracy.
The Brazilian Government congratulates the Government and the people of Tunisia and, especially, the entities that compose the Quartet. The Nobel Peace Prize represents not only the deserved recognition of the role played by the Quartet in the Tunisian political transition process, but also a victory for those who, throughout the world, stand for dialogue, tolerance and democracy.
