Murder of Luis Manuel Díaz

The Brazilian Government has learned with deep sorrow of the murder of Luis Manuel Díaz, leader of the Democratic Action party (AD), at a campaign rally in Venezuela's Guárico state.

The Brazilian Government joins the statement issued by UNASUR Electoral Mission for legislative elections, which firmly rejects the use of any form of violence that might affect the good conduct of the electoral process and urges Venezuelan authorities to investigate the facts and punish those responsible.

The Brazilian Government fiercely condemns this unfortunate incident and points out that it is the responsibility of the Venezuelan authorities to ensure fair and peaceful electoral process that will culminate in elections on December 6, so as to allow the Venezuelan people to exercise peacefully their civic duty and to have its sovereign will fully respected.

The Brazilian Government believes that the Venezuelan Government will work towards the prevention of any acts of violence or intimidation that might question the credibility of the ongoing electoral process and the legitimacy of voting results.
