Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota to visit Paraguay – Asunción, January 17, 2011
Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota will make a working visit to Asunción on January 17, 2011.
Minister Patriota will hold a working meeting with the Minister of External Relations of Paraguay, Héctor Lacognata, and will be received by President Fernando Lugo and by other Ministers of the Paraguayan Government.
The Ministers will address the implementation stage of the agreements enshrined in the Joint Declaration signed in Asunción on July 25, 2009, on the occasion of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit, among other relevant issues in the bilateral agenda. They will also examine ways to expand mutual cooperation in areas such as security and social public policies.
The Ministers will also assess ways to enhance the coordination in regional and multilateral fora, which is particularly relevant in this moment when Paraguay holds the Pro Tempore Presidency of Mercosur in its 20th anniversary.
Bilateral trade reached US$ 3.16 billion in 2010, corresponding to a 39% increase in 2009. According to estimates, Paraguay’s economy grew 8.9% in 2010, the greatest growth rate in South America.
