The Brazilian government welcomes the understanding reached yesterday, March 11th, between the main Haitian political groups, for the establishment of a Presidential Transition Council, which is to lead the country until elections are held.
Brazil congratulates the Haitian leaders for the high spirit of constructiveness that guided the negotiations and reaffirms the importance of adopting, as soon as possible, the necessary measures to implement the agreement, in particular the designation of the members of the Presidential Council.
The Brazilian government also commends the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for its intense mediation efforts in recent weeks. At the invitation of the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, who holds the rotating presidency of CARICOM, Brazil sent representatives to the high-level meeting held yesterday, March 11th, in Kingston, Jamaica, where the agreement was finalized.
On the occasion, Brazil reaffirmed its willingness to continue supporting the people of Haiti in their efforts towards the consolidation of peace, the full return to democratic normalcy, and the promotion of the country's economic and social development.
