Market opening for Brazilian beef in Mexico
The Brazilian Government welcomed the news of the opening of the Mexican market for Brazilian beef. Last Monday, March 6th, the government of Mexico published the health requirements for importing animal protein from Brazil.
In accordance with these requirements, beef from Santa Catarina State, which is recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA) as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone, can be exported, as well as fresh and boneless meat from 14 other Brazilian states.
The opening of the market takes place within the scope of the policy to combat food price inflation in that country, proving the capacity of Brazilian agriculture to contribute to the food security of its trading partners across the globe.
The positive outcome achieved after more than a decade of diplomatic negotiations are the result of close coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) of Brazil, both in Brasília and through the joint work between diplomats and the agricultural attaché at the Brazilian embassy in Mexico City.
